Thank God It's Football... season!

Normally a convincing Tar Heel victory to start the season (even one over a DI-AA school) would top everything else, but I gotta start with a shout out for the 'neers!! Unbelievable victory by my sister's alma mater over U of M in the Big House - you can read excellent blogger reaction from Gnumoon (whose hubby is the play-by-play guy everyone in America heard on ESPN yesterday) and Marie at Blue Ridge Blog.

I'm afraid the Tar Heel victory is also a bit overshadowed by the loss last night in Cincinnati by my high school alma mater Independence, losers in the Kirk Herbstreit Ohio against the world thingie. Their last loss prior was 7 years ago to the day but after 109 straight victories they finally let one slip away in overtime. Had to happen sometime and maybe better against a team from Ohio than another Charlotte school like Butler.

As for the Heels, looks like they've got a quarterback! We knew we had receivers in Nicks, Tate and Foster but it wasn't clear that we had anyone that could get them the ball on a regular basis. But 3 TDs against 1 early interception and 13 of 18 is a damn fine start for Yates. We're going to need some running (White's 49 was the high for the game) but the special teams looked good as well and the defense played okay. We'll have bigger tests but it's nice to get this first one out of the way.

I am not liking the Panthers' chances this year. I'm predicting 7-9 (again); 4-12 wouldn't surprise me.
