Kansas-Memphis
I'm sure Kansas fans are hearing from KState and Mizzou fans around them that Memphis gave them the game last night. Having heard that crap after Carolina's wins in 1982 and 1993, that's a load of baloney. Yes, the Tigers missed a bunch of free throws in the end - they missed a bunch of free throws all damn season, so nothing new there. Yes, the refs stopped play and changed a Memphis 3 to a 2 - hey, it was the correct call, so good for them! Bottom line is that KU hung tough even when they were down and Memphis was already breaking out the champaign and they took advantage of the opportunity.ABC'ers (Anybody But Carolina, for you outlanders) remember Fred Brown throwing the ball away to James Worthy at the end of the 1982 game against Georgetown, but they tend to forget that there were around 12 seconds to go when that happened and UNC had the lead. All kinds of things could have happened in that 12 seconds and most of the most likely ones favored UNC. Those same anti-Carolina folks tend to remember Chris Webber's timeout-he-didn't-have instead of the obvious travel at the other end of the floor that wasn't called or the fact that the reason he called the timeout was that he was trapped on the sideline in a doubleteam with no one to pass to. At best he might have thrown the ball against one of the defenders and then tried to bring the ball in, but there are lots of more likely scenarios.
So Jayhawks, hold your heads high and don't listen to the doubters. I'm a believer now that Kansas was the best team in the country this year.
And no, Lex, that doesn't mean that Davidson was second-best - both Carolina and Kansas beat your Wildcats, so no dice. :-)
