New Toy

I know a number of people that have asked whether I shoot film or digital the last couple of years assumed I'm some sort of analog purist when I told them "film". In reality I just hadn't been able to find a digital camera that would do what I wanted it to for a price I could afford.

Times change.

While I'm sure I'll shoot film again off and on, the arrival of my Canon Rebel XTi this past week will reduce the occasions to do so tremendously. Today was the first time I had a chance to try it out so we drove over to the JC Raulston Arboretum in Raleigh to play - me with the Canon and JennySlash with the Fujifilm S5100 that I'd been using in addition to my film camera. The sky went back and forth from summer haze to looking like stormage, so it was a good test. I've got a LOT to learn, but overall I'm quite pleased. I'm planning to head over to the Coker Arboretum at UNC tomorrow - should be much sunnier - and see if I learned anything today.
